The city of Maryville is partnering with Northwest Missouri State University and SK Design Group Inc., of Overland Park, Kan., to complete preliminary design plans for improvements to the Fourth Street corridor.
Preliminary plans showing various concepts are nearing completion and the city will host a public meeting to allow citizens and residents an opportunity to provide input. The public meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10 at the Wesley Student Center, located at 549 W. Fourth St, east of the main entrance to the Northwest campus.
SK Design Group Inc. and city staff will be on hand to discuss the project and address questions or concerns. All interested individuals are invited to attend.
The final scope of the Fourth Street Improvement Project may include the construction of new curb and gutter sections to replace numerous deteriorated portions, detectable warning strips at crosswalks, decorative historic black streetlight poles with acorn fixtures, sections of stamped colored concrete, new modular block retaining walls and handrails, proper utility adjustments, landscaping, extension of the Missouri Arboretum located on the Northwest campus, asphalt mill and overlay of Fourth Street, a “T” intersection at Dunn Street to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety, place-making overhead signal and truss at the intersection of Fourth and Main streets, benches, trash receptacles and public art.
