Northwest Missouri State University students and Maryville community members are invited to join the Office of Campus Activities and Student Activities Council for its sing - and dance – along showing of “Grease” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts
This sing-a-long performance is shown complete with on-screen lyrics and gives audience members a chance to be a T-Bird or Pink Lady for the night. Sing-a-long Greasers are encouraged to dress up in their own versions of ‘50s high school apparel worn at Rydell High, including poodle skirts and saddle shoes, black leather biker and powder-pink bomber jackets, chiffon scarves and skinny ties.
The performance starts with a host preparing the audience for a fun-filled night of singing by leading a vocal warm-up. Audience members will learn how to use their free goody bag during the film as well as some appropriate dance moves, including the “hand-jive.”
Last year marked the 40th anniversary of the launch of the stage musical “Grease.” In 1978, it was produced into the well-known movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
“Sing-a-long Grease” is suitable for children and has a running time of two hours and 20 minutes including the pre-show. Tickets for the showing are available now and can be purchased between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building, or online.
