Northwest Missouri State University, St. Francis Hospital and Health Services and the Maryville HyVee are sponsoring the Heart & Sole 5K Saturday, Sept. 14, to raise awareness about heart disease and remember individuals affected by it.
Registration opens at 7 a.m., and the walk begins at 8 a.m. in the circle drive in front of the Lamkin Activity Center. Participants may pre-register for $10, which includes a T-shirt. The registration fee on the day of the walk is $15.
Proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.
Organizers noted the tragic impact heart disease continues to have on Maryville residents and that curbing heart problems is on the forefront of the minds of community members.
“We were so pleased with the turnout of our inaugural event last year,” said Rita Miller, community relations and development director at St. Francis Hospital & Health Services and one of the event organizers. “We hope to build on last year’s success so that we continue to commemorate those who have been lost or are dealing with heart disease to inspire others to live heart-healthy lifestyles.”
The walk will happen rain or shine. The event also will include a “Survivor Start,” informational materials and refreshments. As a family-friendly experience, wheels are welcome; including kids’ bikes, strollers, wagons and wheelchairs.
