Northwest faculty to direct second annual ‘Enchanting Evening’
Songs and scenes from the Broadway hits of yesterday and today will take the stage as Maryville Young Players (MYP), a local theater group directed by Northwest Missouri State University’s Vanessa Parsons and Pat Immel, presents “An Enchanting Evening.”
The Broadway review will be presented in two acts and feature local talent singing beloved melodies from “Beauty and the Beast,” “Les Miserables,” “Anything Goes” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” Desserts will be served during intermission.
“One of the really great things about this show is that it involves a cast of all ages,” Immel said. “We have current and former MYP members, MYP parents and grandparents, and other MYP supporters all taking part. It’s going to be a really fun show.”
Maryville Young Players was founded in 2007 by Parsons, music instructor at Northwest’s Horace Mann Laboratory School, and Immel, associate professor of theater at Northwest, as a way to introduce children and youth to musical theater while keeping them involved with the arts during summer months.
The local children in grades second through nine annually produce a large scale musical production. This summer’s production of “Beauty and the Beast” drew a record 156 participants.
“An Enchanting Evening” is 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and Saturday, Aug. 3, with a matinee at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts Studio Theatre.
Advance tickets may be purchased at Hy-Vee for $15 and include guaranteed seating, dessert and beverages. Ticket proceeds will assist with the summer camp’s operating costs.
