Maci Bookout, the star of MTV’s “Teen Mom,” will share her story during a lecture at 7 p.m. Monday, April 15, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom at Northwest Missouri State University.
Bookout’s visit is part of the Student Activities Council’s SAC Speaks lecture series.
“‘Teen Mom’ is a popular show and Maci’s message should inspire all students to overcome any curveball that is thrown at them throughout college and life in general,” said Lucas Clark, SAC’s Lecture Programming Director.
When Bookout was 16, she became pregnant. Soon after, she heard about an MTV documentary with the goal of illustrating the struggles teen pregnancy brings upon young females. After sending in her casting tape and being selected, she starred in the first episode of “16 and Pregnant,” which aired in 2009. Eventually, MTV expanded the show to “Teen Mom,” on which Bookout appeared for all the show’s full run of four seasons.
Bookout’s lecture at Northwest will focus on how being a teenage mother left her more determined to pursue her dreams and continue her education. Although parents and nontraditional students will be able to closely relate, her inspirational message to all individuals is aimed at maintaining a positive life outlook.
