The Missouri state Senate has confirmed Gov. Jay Nixon’s appointments of three individuals to the Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regents.
The Senate, on Feb. 7, confirmed the appointments of John W. Richmond (D), of Albany; Dr. Patrick B. Harr (R), of Maryville; and Francis “Gene” Dorrel (R), of Maryville.
Dorrel’s term ends Jan. 1, 2017. The terms of Richmond and Harr are set to end Jan. 1, 2019.
“We are pleased by the Senate’s confirmation of John, Pat and Gene and look forward to working with them on our efforts toward continued improvement at Northwest and our focus on student success – every student, every day,” Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski said. “I thank them and all of our Board members for their meaningful volunteer service to Northwest and our state.”
Richmond served 29 years as the president and CEO of Northwest Medical Center in Albany. He owns a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s degree in hospital administration from Webster University.
Harr spent 38 years practicing medicine in Maryville and served as a volunteer physician for Northwest athletics teams before retiring last June. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and attended Northwest where he studied pre-medicine.
Dorrel, a 1976 graduate of Northwest, has been general manager of United Electric Cooperative in Maryville and Savannah since 1990. He has served on several boards including as chairman of the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives' Legislative and Government Relations Committee and as president of the Nodaway County Economic Development Corporation.
The Board of Regents is responsible for sound resource management of the University and determining general, educational and financial policies.
