Student Senate having election regarding amendments to constitution
Pursuant to its constitution, the Northwest Missouri State University Student Senate has organized an election to give students an opportunity to vote on amendments to its constitution. If a majority of the student body votes in favor of the amendments, they will be adopted.
The action is in response to a referendum passed by two-thirds of the Student Senate on Feb. 5. The proposed amendments are as follows:
- There shall be one representative from the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing.
- The representative from the Missouri Academy of Math, Science and Computing shall be selected by students enrolled in the Academy in an election facilitated by the Missouri Academy SGA each fall.
The election will take place on CatPaws between Wednesday, Feb. 13, and Friday, Feb. 15. Students may participate by logging on to CatPaws, clicking on the “Voting and Polls” tab and following the prompts.
Student Senate also recently approved a set of bylaw amendments, which do not need approval from the student body, that restrict graduate and Missouri Academy students from running for any voting position that is not specifically outlined for their constituency.
