The Northwest Missouri State University community is invited to take a stand against violence as it hosts the One Billion Rising Dance Party from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in the J.W. Jones Student Union.
The event is part of a worldwide movement to raise awareness about violence against women. Statistics show one in three women around the world are beaten or raped in their lifetime – a number that translates into 1 billion women worldwide, said Jen Kennymore, a health educator at Northwest Wellness Services.
“The One Billion Rising movement is a chance for women and men to take a stand against violence and millions will be joining us on Feb. 14,” Kennymore said.
The event is open to the public and will include food, dancing and other activities. It is sponsored by Northwest’s Coalition Against Violence, Bearcat Peer Education and Wellness Services.
