Gov. Jay Nixon will reflect on Northwest Missouri State University’s strong academic performance as well as his commitment to higher education during a visit to the University Friday, Feb. 1.
The governor’s appearance is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in the J.W. Jones Student Union Board Room on the Northwest campus.
The event is open to the public. Northwest’s National Public Radio affiliate KXCV will provide live coverage of Nixon’s address, and it will be carried via a live web stream on Northwest’s website at www.nwmissouri.edu/live.
Nixon will discuss how his plans to provide Missouri’s colleges and universities with additional performance-based funding will expand opportunities for students and ensure taxpayer investments yield the best possible returns. The governor’s fiscal year 2014 budget proposal includes an increase of $34 million for higher education through a performance-based funding model.
