Dr. Ming-Chih Hung, associate professor of geography at Northwest Missouri State University, has been selected by the editor of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Journal of Urban Planning and Development, Gang-Len Chang, as a 2012 Outstanding Reviewer.

Hung, who was among eight individuals named as outstanding reviewers for the publication, received a certificate of recognition and his name will be published among a list of ASCE’s 2012 Outstanding Reviewers on the journal’s website as well as in an upcoming issue of ASCE News.

The society publishes more than 30 journals related to engineering, environmental and urban development issues.

Hung has served as a manuscript reviewer for the journal and a member of its editorial board since 2008. He reviews manuscripts on topics such as uses of GIScience, remote sensing and global position system (GPS) on urban areas.

“The Journal of Urban Planning and Development is a highly regarded journal in the field of urban studies, which aligns very well with my own research interests,” Hung said. “I was fortunate to be invited as a reviewer and then joined the editorial board. This grants me a front row seat to see the latest trends and developments in the field of urban studies. The experience and knowledge I gained from this service enables me to enhance student learning in our MS-GIS program, especially students’ thesis research.”

Hung joined the Northwest faculty in 2003 and teaches GIScience courses. His academic interests also include precision agriculture, land use analysis and urbanization. In April 2012, he was appointed deputy chair of the American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing (ASPRS) membership committee.
