Northwest Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band seeking members
The Northwest Missouri State University Department of Fine and Performing Arts is recruiting instrumentalists for the University’s Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band.
The department will have open auditions for participation in the Northwest Wind Symphony during the spring trimester. Auditions begin at 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building Room 241. A sign-up sheet will be posted outside Room 241, beginning Friday, Nov. 30.
Section openings include flute, oboe, B-flat clarinet, saxophone, horn, trombone, tuba and percussion. Individuals considering auditioning should prepare two brief contrasting excerpts of solo or etude material and be prepared to demonstrate knowledge of scales.
Additionally, the Northwest Symphonic Band is accepting members. No audition is required to join the band, which is open to all students and serves as an outlet for many non-music majors. The band performs a broad range of literature including transcriptions, modern wind compositions and light pop selections.
Participation in either Wind Symphony or Symphonic Band is not limited to music majors, and students may enroll for academic credit or activity credit.
