Northwest unveils virtual tour to offer added views of campus

Prospective Northwest Missouri State University students – as well as alumni and friends interested in revisiting the campus from afar – now have a way of doing so virtually.

Northwest recently partnered with YouVisit, a producer of virtual campus tours for colleges and universities throughout the country, to offer a virtual tour that is now available on the Northwest website.

The virtual tour allows prospective students and their family members who may lack the time and money to travel to Northwest for a tour to explore the campus from anywhere in the world.

Bev Schenkel, Northwest’s dean of enrollment management, said taking a campus tour remains a significant activity within the college selection process. The new virtual tour is a convenient and easy way for students and their families to not only learn about Northwest but to see it, too.

“We still encourage all students to visit the campus to interact with our faculty, students and staff as that is the best way to learn the culture of our school,” Schenkel said. “The tour captures the spirit of a campus, and it should be a part of every student’s college search process. It also has a positive impact on student satisfaction when they make their final college choice.”

With the help of a virtual tour guide, Jenna, the walking tour begins at Northwest’s main entrance at Fourth Street and College Avenue. By clicking on arrows that appear on the sidewalks, users can virtually walk the campus and step inside buildings. At each stop, Jenna describes the facilities, programs and services offered to Northwest students.

Users may click on 360-degree views, for example, of the Mary Linn Auditorium in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts, the locker rooms and training facilities within the Lamkin Activity Center, classrooms or the variety of residence hall rooms. Users also may click on photos and videos that offer additional perspectives of the layout and atmosphere within each building.

The virtual tour also gives users direct access to schedule a visit of Northwest or submit an enrollment application.

The tour may be accessed by visiting the Office of Admissions website at and clicking on the bulletin board note labeled ”New Virtual Campus Tour” or on Northwest Facebook pages. It also may be accessed directly by going to
