Five men, five women nominated as 2012 Homecoming royalty

The Northwest Missouri State University Homecoming committee has announced royalty candidates for the University’s 2012 Homecoming celebration.

Students may begin voting at 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22 by logging onto CatPaws; voting will end at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. The king and queen will be announced at about 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, during the Homecoming Variety Show.

This year's Homecoming princess is Schia Rogers, who is 5 years old and attends Horace Mann Laboratory School. She is the daughter of Andy and Sara Rogers, who is a fourth grade instructor at Horace Mann. The Homecoming prince is Layne Ziegler, who is 6 years old and attends Eugene Field Elementary School. He is the son of Tom and Kim Ziegler, who is a graphic designer in the Office of University Relations.

Northwest will celebrate its Homecoming week, “Superheroes and Villains,” Oct. 28 through Nov. 4. Events are open to all Northwest students, alumni, faculty, staff, families, friends and community members. For a complete schedule of Homecoming 2012 activities and events, click here.

The Variety Show is 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, and Friday, Nov. 2, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are free and available at the Student Services Center or at the door.

He also is a member of the Accounting Society, Cardinal Key national honor society, Delta Mu Delta business honor society, Alpha Chi national honor society, the Homecoming Variety Show committee and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Activities: He is a student ambassador for Northwest and a member of Phi Sigma Kappa; Blue Key honor society; the Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance Club; the Greek Week committee; Interfraternity Council; The Navigators; and a volunteer with Special Olympics. Activities: He is co-captain of the Northwest Forensics and Debate team; co-founder of Minority Educators of Northwest Missouri, a student adviser for Minority Men’s Organization and student Adviser for Alliance of Black Collegians. He also is a member of the American Sign Language Club, the Spirit and Truth Gospel Choir and Comedy Inc. Activities: He is president of Student Senate, new member educator for Phi Delta Theta and co-chair for the Canned Art Homecoming Committee. Activities: She is president of Sigma Kappa sorority and treasurer of Panhellenic Council. She serves as a laboratory assistant, teaching assistant and Freshman Seminar peer advisor for Northwest. She also a member of the Northwest Dance Company, Alpha Chi national honor society, Cardinal Key national honor society, Gamma Sigma Epsilon chemistry honor society, Order of Omega Greek honor society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Student Leader Team for The Navigators campus ministry organization.

Activities: She is president of Panhellenic Council and is a member of Sigma Kappa sorority and Order of Omega Greek honor society.
