A free yoga class is now available to Northwest Missouri State University students and employees. Hatha Yoga will meet 1-2 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the Martindale Hall dance studio, beginning Sept. 5.
Hatha yoga is a physical yoga exercise used to improve relaxation, balance, strength and flexibility. Some studies suggest yoga can strengthen the immune system and aid in emotional stability and stress management. Physical symptoms, such as high blood pressure, muscle and joint stiffness, insomnia and low back pain may also be relieved by hatha yoga.
The yoga sessions are led by Northwest Counselor Rhonda Lesley and presented by Northwest Personal Development and Counseling and Wellness Services. No prior yoga experience is required and there is no need to register. Participants should dress comfortably in exercise clothing and bring a yoga mat or long towel.
