The Outstanding Advising Awards annually recognize individuals who demonstrate qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students or outstanding academic advising administration. The Faculty Academic Advising category includes individuals whose primary responsibility is teaching and who provide academic advising services to students.
Hoffmann will be honored during the NACADA Annual Conference Oct. 4-7, in Nashville, Tenn. Winners receive a plaque and a one-year membership in NACADA.
Hoffmann, who advises between 160 and 200 undergraduate business majors each trimester at Northwest, serves as the faculty academic advisor in the Department of Marketing and Management. As an academic advisor, Hoffmann is a liaison between students and the resources Northwest offers to help them succeed. Hoffmann also puts emphasis on building relationships with each student that foster their success.
In addition to her academic advisement of students, Hoffmann advises multiple student groups at Northwest, including the American Marketing Association, the Delta Mu Delta business administration honor society, the Sigma Kappa sorority and the Sigma Society service organization.
Since 1983, NACADA has honored individuals and institutions making significant contributions to the improvement of academic advising. NACADA is a representative and advocate of academic advising and of people providing that service to higher education. The association has more than 10,000 members and provides a variety of resources and networking opportunities. For more information, go to http://www.nacada.ksu.edu/.
