The Northwest Missouri State University Clay Club will host its annual spring art show and sale from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Fire Arts Building, located south of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.
A variety of pottery sculptures, photos, paintings and drawings by Northwest students will be on display and available for purchase. The sale is an excellent opportunity for patrons to purchase gifts for Mother’s Day, weddings and other special occasions.
In the Fire Arts Building, a multimedia installation by graduating senior Sky McKeever will be displayed. In the DeLuce Fine Arts Building, visitors also will have the opportunity to see senior exhibitions including mixed media and photography by Ashley Gay and photography by Cramer Peterson and Diane Cudworth. The Annual Juried Student Exhibition also will be open for viewing in the DeLuce Gallery.
“The art show and sale is often the first experience a student has with showing their work to the public outside of their peers and instructors,” Laura Kukkee, associate professor of art, said. “Putting their work on display, sometimes selling it and seeing how people react to the work can be very instructive for the students. Ultimately, the art student starts to understand that what we make needs to communicate. How successfully our work communicates is what we all strive for. This event allows the students to reflect on this and to reflect on their growth over the past year.”
