Theatre, music faculty members join forces for melodramatic evening

Dr. Theo Ross, professor of theatre, and Dr. Anthony Olson, associate professor of music, will present a joint recital at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, in the Charles Johnson Theater.
The unique program will consist of works for narrator and pianist. Included in the evening’s performance are melodramas by Richard Strauss and Franz Liszt along with the perennial favorite “Peter and the Wolf” by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
The event is free and open to the public.
Olson, who has interest in piano music of the nineteenth century, teaches piano and organ at Northwest. He recently released “From Mazurka to Mélodie,” a CD with lyric soprano Ms. Eva Peng paying tribute to 19th century musicians Pauline Viardot and Frederic Chopin.
Ross teaches theater, acting and directing classes, in addition to directing theater productions at Northwest. His academic interests include theater history, theater performance and American social history.
