The Northwest Missouri State University Wind Symphony will be joined by about 60 Northwest alumni for a special Alumni Day Concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
The concert will feature the Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Doug Overmier, assistant professor of music at Northwest, performing with members of the Northwest Band Alumni Chapter, under the direction of former Northwest Director of Bands Al Sergel and Northwest alumnus Ky Hascall.
The program will include Thomas Doss’ “Montana Fanfare,” Getty H. Huffine’s “Them Bassees,” Johannes Brahms’ “Blessed Are They” and Gioacchino Rossini’s “Italian in Algiers.” In addition, the bands will perform compositions by alumni band members Hascall and Gavin Lendt.
The concert also will honor Dr. Ernest Woodruff, professor and chair of the Department of Music at Northwest, who is retiring this spring after 35 years at the University. There will be a reception for Woodruff after the concert.
