Northwest Missouri State University students, faculty and staff again have the opportunity to visit the Capitol in Jefferson City to engage state legislators and discuss issues facing the University during the annual Legislative Reception sponsored by Northwest’s Student Senate.
This year’s Legislative Reception is Thursday, Feb. 23. The legislative visit is an all-day event at the Capitol in Jefferson City. Transportation is provided; busses will load at 3:30 a.m. and depart at 4 a.m. from the Administration Building circle drive.
After arriving at the capitol, participants will visit legislators’ offices to share their experiences with lawmakers and lobby on Northwest’s behalf. The day also includes lunch, provided by Student Senate, and a tour of the Capitol.
“The Legislative Reception is a unique learning experience because students get to represent their fellow students directly to elected officials,” Student Senate President Andrew Maddux said.
Buses are expected to return to Maryville at about 8 p.m. with a stop for dinner along the way. Participants will be responsible for purchasing their meals.
Students, faculty and staff interested in traveling to the Legislative Reception must attend one of two informational sessions, hosted by the Student Senate Governmental Affairs committee. The sessions will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Meeting Room A or 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Colden Hall Room 3500.
