The swinging sounds of jazz music will fill the air as the Northwest Missouri State University Studio Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble instrumental groups perform an assortment of big band pieces from a variety of styles. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Charles Johnson Theater located in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.
The concert is free and open to the public.
“The music is really fantastic, and both jazz ensembles have captured the spirit of these compositions,” says Dr. William Richardson, associate professor of music, who conducts both ensembles. “It should be a lot of fun for everyone. We love to play for people, and it’s always a great experience to hear live jazz music.”
The Northwest Jazz Ensemble is a select group of musicians dedicated to the performance of a wide variety of jazz and commercial music. The Jazz Ensemble annually sponsors the Northwest District Jazz Band performance and the Northwest Jazz Festival. The Northwest Studio Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble perform several concerts on campus annually, and the Jazz Ensemble regularly tours the four-state region.
