The Northwest Missouri State University Clay Club will host its annual Winter Art Show and Pottery Sale at the Fire Arts Building, located south of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building on Munn Avenue.
The event will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.
Students from all studio areas are encouraged to participate in the show and sale, which offers pottery, sculpture, paintings, drawings, prints and photographs.
Artwork can be purchased by cash or check. Shoppers are reminded a line of customers often forms before the show opens.
“The winter pottery sale is an excellent opportunity to support our students while purchasing one of a kind, handmade gifts for the holidays,” said Laura Kukkee, associate professor of art and head of the ceramics program at Northwest. “Prices are extremely reasonable, and there should be something to fit everyone's taste and budget.”
The show also will feature work from the art department’s new kiln, known as “Club Soda,” which is the latest addition to the department’s outdoor kiln yard.
“Introducing sodium into the kiln during firing, this specialized firing process produces a surface that is subtle, atmospheric and sometimes quite colorful on stoneware and porcelain,” Kukkee said.
Eighty-five percent of the proceeds go directly to students, and helps offset the cost of art supplies. Remaining proceeds support art-oriented activities such as field trips and other co-curricular activities for the Clay Club and Art Association.
