Northwest’s Early Care and Education Lab Center to host ‘Gross Motor Night’ for parents, children
The faculty of the Early Care and Education Lab Center (ECELC) and the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University invites parents and their children to “Gross Motor Night” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the gymnasium of the Horace Mann Laboratory School.
The free event is open to the public and will include a presentation by Gina McNeese, Horace Mann physical education teacher, about gross motor milestones and motor development in children from infancy to age 8.
Parents also will have the chance to see firsthand the activities that promote gross motor development in their children. Students from Northwest’s Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance as well as student employees of the ECELC will facilitate activities for children in the Horace Mann and Martindale gymnasiums. Elizabeth Argo, of the Maryville Public Library, will lead gross motor activities for children ages 0 to 2.
Parents and children are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and appropriate gym shoes.

Last spring, the center hosted a nutrition night at the Maryville Public Library that provided parents with information about nutrition and healthy meals in addition to children’s activities.
