Northwest St. Joseph Center to host Oct. 20 lecture about accounting issues

Matt Robertson, a CPA and partner at St. Joseph accounting firm Clifton Gunderson, will offer his thoughts on current issues in managerial accounting during a lecture Thursday, Oct. 20, at Northwest Missouri State University's St. Joseph Center.

The event will be 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Center, located at 706 Felix St., in St. Joseph. Refreshments will be served at 5 p.m., and Robertson will begin speaking at 5:15 p.m. A question and answer period also is planned.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our MBA students to learn more about a career in accounting and to network with other business colleagues in St. Joseph," said Dr. Melody Messner, director of the St. Joseph Center.

A St. Joseph resident, Robertson serves on many boards and charitable organizations and was named one of Ingram's 40 Under 40 in 2011. Clifton Gunderson is one of the nation's largest certified public accounting and consulting firms.

"I've worked with Matt for several years, and he is a wonderful professional and civic resource for the community. He's a dynamic person with a great story to tell," said Rebecca Evans, director of the Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) in St. Joseph.

Northwest's St. Joseph Center offers graduate programs in curriculum and instruction; educational leadership; psychology, sociology and counseling; instructional technology and a Master of Business Administration.

The SBTDC in St. Joseph is part of the Northwest Small Business and Technology Development Center under the direction of Northwest Missouri State University and sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The Northwest SBTDC covers 17 counties spanning from Atchison County, southward to Platte County and eastward to Livingston County. In addition to St. Joseph, the Northwest SBTDC has regional offices in Maryville and Chillicothe.
