Sept. 29, 2011
Phil Laber, professor of art at Northwest Missouri State University, recently received a third place award for his print, "Delivery from the Political Dead Zone."
Laber was recognized in conjunction with the National Print Exhibition, sponsored by the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Hand Print Press, which is on display until Dec. 2 at the UMKC Gallery of Art. Works in the exhibit represent print artists from across the United States and a variety of innovative contemporary printmaking directions.
Lessa Fanning, associate curator of modern and contemporary art at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, juried three of Laber's recent hybrid prints into the exhibition before selecting one for the Juror's Award.
Laber joined the Northwest faculty in 1976 and directs the photography and printmaking programs. Laber is an active artist and participated regularly in regional, national and international peer juried exhibitions.
