Representatives from more than 90 companies, institutions and government agencies will visit Northwest Missouri State University Tuesday, Oct. 11, during its annual Fall Career Day.
Employers and recruiters will be on hand to speak with potential job, internship and graduate school applicants from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
The event gives potential candidates the opportunity to interact with employers offering full-time, summer, and internship opportunities. Representatives from a wide variety of graduate schools and professional programs also distribute information to students interested in continuing their education. The chance to network with hiring companies in a familiar setting is especially valuable with such a competitive job market.
Attending employers will be representing an array of industries. Representatives will be at Northwest on behalf of AgriGold Hybrids, Buckle Inc., Cerner Corporation, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Garmin International, Nodaway Broadcasting, MRIGlobal, Worlds of Fun and more. Registrations are received daily and often total about 100 employers and graduate schools.
Students may click here for a complete list of participating employers. Employer names are linked to company websites so students can research firms and institutions for whom they might want to work. The page also includes an 18-minute video, "How to Attend Career Day," to help students prepare.
About 500 students typically participate in Career Day at Northwest, and some will be called back Wednesday, Oct. 12, for Next Day Interviews when recruiters return to conduct interviews with applicants and students who made a particularly good first impression. These interviews are in the J.W. Jones Student Union.
This year's Career Day will also incorporate the Graduate Information Fair, where students, community members and others can learn about graduate school opportunities at Northwest. Stop by Career Day between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.11, to visit with graduate faculty as well as prospective employers. Student participants in the Graduate Information Fair will be entered into a drawing for a Kindle.
Participating students should wear appropriate business attire and come prepared with several copies of their resume. At a minimum, prospective employers will want to know the major and primary career goals of students who talk to them.
The event also is a good opportunity for freshmen and sophomores to scout for internship opportunities since a growing number of employers rely on internships to screen for potential employees.
