Audit report assists in Northwest’s commitment to continuous improvement

Continuous improvement has been a foundation and steadfast philosophy for Northwest Missouri State University for many years. Northwest's commitment to continuous improvement was demonstrated once again when the University received an independent perspective of its practices from State Auditor Thomas A. Schweich.

Tuesday, Sept. 6, the state auditor conducted a streaming webcast news conference from Jefferson City to announce his official findings from the University's state audit report. The auditors began their work at Northwest in January 2010 and were on-site through July 2010 and completed their report just a few days ago. The report includes the state's findings and recommendations as well as Northwest's responses.

"I appreciate the time and effort that went into this audit, by the auditor's office, our Board of Regents as well as our Northwest employees," said Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski. "On behalf of the entire University, I thank the state auditor for providing another perspective that helps guide Northwest toward improved functions. We have developed a plan of action that will set the course for considering and addressing the audit recommendations as appropriate."

Jasinski said the University has agreed with many of the recommendations, as indicated in the report. Several have already been addressed while others have an identified action plan with a specified timeframe.

As evidence of the University's longstanding commitment to continuous improvement, Jasinski said that Northwest was the first education institution in the state to win the Missouri Quality Award - one of the strongest state-level quality award programs in the nation - four consecutive times, in 1997, 2001, 2005 and 2008.
