Reservations accepted for Tourin’ Bearcats’ trip to Ireland

A nine-day "Introduction to Ireland" is the next trip offered by Tourin' Bearcats, the travel program for Northwest Missouri State University alumni and friends.

The Northwest Alumni Association-sponsored trip, which is open to the public, is April 17-25, 2012. The cost is $2,395 per person, based on double occupancy, and includes roundtrip airfare from Kansas City.

A professional tour guide will accompany the group throughout the trip, which includes breakfasts and three dinners and hotel stays in Dublin, Ennis, Killarney and Waterford.

Trip highlights include visits to see the Irish National Stud at Kildare, the Rock of Cashel, the 668-foot Cliffs of Moher and the Joyce family marble workshop and a tour the newly opened House of Waterford Crystal. Travelers will visit Blarney, renowned for its magical Kissing Stone, enjoy afternoon tea at Rathbaun Farm, cross the Shannon estuary by ferry and join the Ring of Kerry for a scenic peninsula drive. The Tourin' Bearcats also will visit the Lakes of Killarney as well as Ireland's oldest handweaving mill at Avoca, the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough.

"After each of our alumni trips, we survey our Tourin' Bearcats to see what destinations they would like for us to offer. Ireland was a location that many of our travelers mentioned," said Steve Sutton, Northwest's director of alumni relations. "With the history and culture as well as the beautiful scenery that Ireland offers, this trip promises to be exceptional. It's also a great opportunity to meet and spend time with fellow Bearcats."

Recent Tourin' Bearcats destinations include Alaska, Hawaii, San Antonio and a Rhine River cruise. A getaway to Virginia's Historic Triangle is slated for late October.

Reservations, with a $300 deposit, are due Dec. 1, and final payment is due by Feb. 1, 2012. Early registration is encouraged due to limited space availability, and trip insurance is available. Checks should be made out to Cotter Travel and mailed to Northwest Missouri State University, Alumni House, 800 University Dr., Maryville, MO 64468.
