Group seeks individuals, families to assist international students
Making the adjustment to college life can be tough on any student, especially if he or she is an international student. But Friends of International Students works to make sure those students have the support they need during their college years at Northwest.
Friends of International Students pairs Northwest students from outside the United States with local families and individuals who offer information, assistance, hospitality and home-cooked meals.
Families interested in assisting international students during the fall trimester should sign up by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call FIS President Kathleen Baudino at 660.562.1395.
First-time friends are asked to attend one of two orientation sessions on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Intercultural and International Center, located in the the J.W. Jones Student Union. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.
Friends of International Students is a community-based organization that seeks members living throughout Nodaway County. Members do not have to be University faculty or staff. Once enrolled in the program, friends are expected to have some kind of contact with their student at least once a month and attend group events twice a year. The friends and families also can serve as contact people when the students have questions or need help.
