MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University announces the hiring of Phillip Dowden as its assistant athletic director for media relations and communications.
Dowden, who began his duties Monday, July 25, comes to Northwest from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, where he had served as assistant director of athletics media relations since September 2009.
"We are excited to have Phillip join our staff," Northwest Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "He did a very good job at ACU and is familiar with our conference and the success of Bearcat Athletics. I know that he will be a big asset to Northwest."
Dowden said, "I'm excited to join the Northwest family and be a part of the tradition here in Maryville."
At Abilene Christian, Dowden helped cover the university's 14 varsity sports, in addition to serving as an official scorer for home games and on the broadcast team for the school's football, basketball and baseball games.
In his new role at Northwest, Dowden's responsibilities will include coordinating athletics news releases and publications, game-day press box management and compiling statistics.
Dowden earned his bachelor of arts degree from Missouri Southern State University, where he also was a sports information assistant.
