MARYVILLE, Mo. -While many look forward to graduating from Northwest Missouri State University, Annette Hill and her family are sharing a three-way celebration years in the making.
Hill, a member of Northwest's staff for 27 years, will receive her Master of Business Administration during Northwest's spring commencement ceremonies Saturday. Her son, Ky, and daughter-in-law, Karissa, also are graduating. Ky completed his Master of Education in health and physical education, while Karissa is receiving her master's degree in biology.
As the service center supervisor at Northwest's Student Services Center, Hill is one of Northwest's most familiar faces. Hill says she enjoys working with the University students and assisting them with their needs.
In addition, she began attending classes at Northwest in 1982. After spending two years at the University, she put her education on hold to focus on raising a family. In 2001, she finished her undergraduate degree and contemplated working toward a master's.
"I had a professor tell me that I would be getting my MBA," Hill said. "I said yes, but I wanted to wait for my children to graduate first."
After she began her master's program, Hill figured out she could share in the special moment of graduation with her son and daughter-in-law.
"It worked out that we would graduate at the same time, but I did step up my program a little to graduate with them," Hill said. "I thought it would be unique to graduate with my family."
With her graduation approaching, Hill said she has enjoyed all the people she met in classes and the opportunity she has had to see them around the Maryville community.
"Northwest is such a great place," Hill said. "Part of me says I'll leave, but then again it's so good here, why leave?"
