MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missourian, Northwest Missouri State University's student newspaper, claimed five first-place awards, including the top prize for its website, April 2 during the Missouri College Media Association contest in Springfield.
In the Newspaper Division 2 category The Missourian competes against student newspapers representing Missouri Southern State University, Missouri Western State University, Southeast Missouri State University, Truman State University, the University of Central Missouri and Webster University.
"Developing The Northwest Missourian over the last year has given myself and my staff countless learning opportunities to grow not only as journalists, but leaders and editors as well," said Brittany Keithley, a senior journalism major from Falls City, Neb., who served as editor in chief of The Missourian during the 2010-2011 school year. "It is nice to be recognized for our hard work and dedication."

The Missourian is a weekly, citywide newspaper that covers the city of Maryville and the Northwest campus. Students who work on The Missourian are responsible for all writing, photography, editing, advertising and design. The Associated Collegiate Press has ranked The Missourian in the top 1 percent of all college newspapers in the country. The newspaper also can be accessed online at http://www.nwmissourinews.com/.
