Northwest fraternities, sororities to celebrate annual Greek Week
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University sorority and fraternity members are coming together for their annual Greek Week celebration and to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Greek Week at Northwest begins Sunday, April 3. All events are open for the public to attend.
Greek Week joins Greek members at Northwest in games and contests to promote their unity and spread awareness about Greek life. This year's theme is "Greekelodeon."
In addition to the week's activities, each chapter is charged with raising $750. Proceeds will go to Big Brothers Big Sisters, a mentoring program that pairs children with role models to build trusting relationships and friendships that help children realize their potential for a successful future.
2011 Greek Week activities
Sunday, April 3
Olympiad, 2 p.m. at Colden Pond
Greek organizations will create a chariot, and five members of each participating chapter will race around Northwest's campus.
Monday, April 4
Zeus and Hera, 7 p.m. at the Charles Johnson Theater
The Zeus and Hera event consists of one member from each fraternity (Zeus) and sorority (Hera). Selected members will perform a talent and answers questions pertaining to the Greek Week theme.
Tuesday, April 5
Recreation Night, 7 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center
Greek chapters will compete in a variety of games and contests.
Wednesday, April 6
Watermelon Bash, 4:30 p.m. at the parking lot behind the Pavilion
The Watermelon Bash features different games to be played using watermelons.
Friday, April 8
Bowling, 5 p.m. at Bearcat Lanes
Sunday, April 17
Awards, 6 p.m. at the Charles Johnson Theater
The awards ceremony is the final event of Greek Week. Awards are given to chapters that performed well during the week's activities.
