MARYVILLE, Mo. - Dr. Jackie Elliott, vice president of student affairs at Northwest Missouri State University, was announced today as the next president of North Arkansas College. Elliott will resign her position at Northwest effective June 24 and assume the presidency at North Arkansas July 1.

"It is with mixed emotions that I am leaving Northwest after five wonderful and gratifying years," Elliott said. "It has been a privilege and a pleasure to work with such an amazing and committed team of staff and especially students."

Elliott arrived at Northwest in 2006 as the associate vice president of student affairs and moved into her current role in 2007. Elliott's responsibilities included directing and supervising the operations of Residential Life, Auxiliary Services, the University Bookstore, Dining Services, Textbook Services, the Dean of Students, the Wellness Center, Campus Activities, International Affairs and student organizations.

During her tenure, Elliott facilitated a student-led initiative to make Northwest a smoke-free campus; assisted with the implementation of a pilot program that provided e-texts to students on Sony e-readers; facilitated the expansion of dining plans to incorporate vending services and sporting event concessions into students' meal plans; founded the Missouri Council for Students Affairs, a coalition of chief student affairs officers in the state; and facilitated a student led-campaign to purchase an electronic marquee for the University's main entrance.

Elliott also incorporated comprehensive service-learning curriculum, which entailed writing and securing grant funding in excess of $20,000. Since then, Northwest's volunteerism and service learning programming has been recognized on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for three consecutive years.

She helped restructure student fees to support classroom renovation projects, integrate an intercultural development competency assessment program and institute a sexual assault advocacy training program.

"Dr. Elliott has been a strong student advocate and her efforts are being rewarded through this excellent leadership opportunity," Northwest President Dr. John Jasinski said. "I appreciate her work in advancing the overall role of student affairs within university education and wish Jackie and her family the very best."

Elliott has spent more than 20 years working in higher education, serving in student affairs and student development positions at Barton County (Kan.) Community College, Creighton University and Highland (Kan.) Community College. She holds a bachelor's degree in communications and English from Concordia University and a master's degree in English from Fort Hays State University. She completed her doctor of education in educational leadership and administration at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

North Arkansas College is a comprehensive, public two-year college serving northern Arkansas. Elliott was selected from more than 40 applicants and four finalists for the position. She will be the college's third president, succeeding Dr. Jeff Olson, who retired Jan. 31.
