MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Tower Choir of Northwest Missouri State University will present a concert of diverse, fascinating music with the Kearney High School Bel Canto and Chamber Choir at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6 in the Charles Johnson Theater.
The concert is free and open to the public.
The Kearney High School choral ensembles are under the direction of Jason Elam. A native of Winfield, Kan., Elam received his bachelor of science degree in music education from Northwest in 1997, and a master's degree in 2001. As an educator, Elam has taught for 14 years in the Raymore-Peculiar, Harrisonville, Chillicothe and Kearney school districts. Elam has conducted two invitational concerts with the Chamber Choir at the State Convention of the Missouri Music Educators Association.
Formed decades ago by Ralph E. Hartzell, and presently under the direction of Dr. Stephen Town, the Northwest Tower Choir has a rich and varied history of outstanding choral performance and musical perfection. Since 1999-2000, the ensemble has performed more than 100 concerts for high schools, colleges, universities, churches, institutions, and organizations in 12 states and Washington, D.C. In addition, the ensemble has given nine peer-reviewed and invitational concerts for learned societies and regional and state conventions, meetings and symposia.
The shared concert is part of the ongoing Northwest Guest Choral Ensembles Concert Series initiated by Town and featuring ensembles in concert with the Tower Choir.
