B.D. Owens Library staff members Sarah Park, web reference librarian; Lori Mardis, assistant professor; and Connie Ury, assistant professor; published an article in the January 2011 issue of "Reference Services Review."
The quarterly journal is a refereed international publication that covers a wide range of library reference and user services. The Northwest authors' article is titled "I've Lost My Identity - Oh, There It Is ... In a Style Manual: Teaching Citation Styles and Academic Honesty."
The article chronicles the process that Owens' librarians employ to encourage academic honesty among students including citation style guides, academic honesty and plagiarism tutorials, online movies, and interactive learning objects. The process can be used or adapted by other libraries in online and on-ground information literacy instruction environments.
The article is part of a special issue of selected papers chosen by peer reviewers from those presented at the 2010 LOEX of the West library instruction conference in Calgary, Alberta.
