Residential Life to implement Living/Learning Communities during 2011-12
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Office of Residential Life at Northwest Missouri State University is implementing Living/Learning Communities (LLCs) for the 2011-12 school year that will offer regular theme-based programming and events to students.
Interested students must complete an application to live on one of the floors. Applications should be returned to Residential Life by Wednesday (Feb. 16). Applications are available at the Office of Residential Life on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union or online by clicking here.
Two floors, consisting of 30 spaces on each floor, in the University's South Complex will be used as LLCs. Room rates for the LLCs are the same as traditional spaces.
While the LLCs will foster leadership and healthy living, Residential Life also is partnering with the Office of Campus Activities; faculty in the Department of Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Faculty; the University Wellness Center and the Department of Educational Leadership to enhance students' living experiences.
"Partnering with other campus offices will give these students a more direct connection to resources that other students don't have," Director of Residential Life Rose Viau said. "We hope to provide direct access to Distinguished Lecture speakers and special guests on campus that pertain to each floor's theme. Living together with other students who have a similar interest or focus will help all students with motivation to achieve their goals in this area."
Additionally during 2011-12, Residential Life is offering married and sibling student housing. For married students, spaces will be limited to two-person apartments in Northwest's Forest Village Apartments as they are available. Sibling student housing will be offered in Tower Suites. All interested students must complete an application.
Viau said Residential Life staff reviewed programs for married and sibling housing at other schools, and Northwest is operating a pilot program next year in response to several requests over the years.
