Mock Interview Day offers students chance to practice skills

By Nichole Beckman, media relations assistant

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University's Office of Career Services is hosting its annual Mock Interview Day, which gives students of all majors the opportunity to practice their interviewing skills with real employers.

Students must sign-up by 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11, to guarantee themselves an interview time for Mock Interview Day. The event will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, in the J.W. Jones Student Union, third floor.

Students who are interested in participating are encouraged to sign-up though Hire A Bearcat on the Career Services website.

Mock Interview Day offers Northwest students more than 250 mock interview opportunities with companies such as Hallmark, Cerner Corporation, the Federal Reserve Bank, Liberty Public Schools, Lincoln Public Schools, Cargill and more. For a complete list of all participating employers, click here.

Students should allow approximately 40 minutes for each interview session. The interviews, which will be broken down into two parts, will include a 20-minute interview and a 10-15 minute evaluation of the student's resume.

Another opportunity available to all students is the Walk-In Resume Review Sessions, which are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The sessions on Feb. 16 will provide students with important professional feedback on how to improve their resumes.

There is no need to dress-up and no pre-registration is required since the review session is not an interview. A copy of the student's resume is the only thing required; the critique should take about five to 10 minutes.
