"I believe the ‘90s have it right as far as music is concerned," Solomon said. "That's why I wanted to reach back and get a group from that decade to perform for our University. The Goo Goo Dolls were, are and will always be a perennial powerhouse in the music industry, and I foresee them putting on an awesome show for our students. Not only do they have classic hits, but they remain current as they released their newest album, ‘Something For The Rest Of Us,' just last August."
Since forming in 1986 in Buffalo, N.Y., the Goo Goo Dolls have risen to worldwide popularity and become one of the most recognizable musical acts populating rock and Top 40 radio stations. The band consists of founding members John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, and drummer Mike Malinin, who joined 16 years ago.
It was in 1995 that the band achieved mainstream status with their breakthrough album, "A Boy Named Goo," which yielded the band's first hit single, "Name," and went on to sell more than 2 million copies.
The Goo Goo Dolls soon began touring extensively around the world, and in 1998 they released their sixth album, "Dizzy Up the Girl," which produced several more hits. "Iris" spent 18 weeks atop the Billboard charts.
More recent hits from the band include "Better Days" and a chart-topping cover of Supertramp's "Give A Little Bit."
Through it all, the Goo Goo Dolls have racked up four Grammy nominations, 13 consecutive top 10 multi-format hit songs, and more than 10 million albums sold. Rzeznik also is the recipient of the Hal David Starlight Songwriter Award.
