Co-authored with Richard Perry, assistant professor of music at the University of Southern Mississippi, the book provides a biography of Winston Morris that includes the influences that led to the development of the Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble, one of the most successful performing collegiate ensembles in history.

McAdams describes how Morris founded an ensemble comprised only of tubas and euphoniums, known as the "underdogs" of the orchestra, and propelled it to international recognition, establishing and defining the standards for tuba ensemble performance practices and creating a monumental influence on both the tuba and music education throughout the world. Morris is responsible for the composition and arrangement of more music for the tuba and tuba ensemble than any other single source.

"This book provides a detailed account of the pioneering and record breaking accomplishments of this musician and the ensemble he directs," McAdams said. "His work has forever changed the way composers and teachers approach the tuba and euphonium."

McAdams has previously published numerous articles on the tuba and tuba literature and was an author and assistant editor of "The Tuba Source Book," published in 1996 by Indiana University Press.

McAdams is in his seventh year as dean of the Northwest's College of Arts and Sciences. He also is co-director of Northwest's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
