MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University is asking the community to "give in the way you can" during its Project Holiday Hope campaign to collect clothing, food and monetary donations for families in need.
The University is collecting new or gently used blankets, scarves, hats, mittens and gloves, socks, winter boots, coats and jackets through Nov. 30. The University will launder the clothing and blanket donations.
Residents also may donate canned and dry boxed goods.
Fans attending Saturday's football playoff game at Northwest may leave items at collection points at all three main entrances to Bearcat Stadium and at the Alumni Association Tailgate in College Park.
Yellow collection bins also will be stationed on campus at the Student Services Desk in the Administration Building, The Station east entrance, The Runt in the J.W. Jones Student Union and the B.D. Owens Library main entrance.Additionally, Project Holiday Hope is accepting monetary donations. Due to cuts in state funding for energy assistance, the average family of four will receive a maximum of $212 for the entire winter season, increasing the need for donations.
People interested in making monetary donations should submit checks payable to "Community Services." Donations should be mailed to Gina Bradley, University Event Coordinator, 220 Administration Building, Maryville, MO 64468.
"I am confident the Northwest family will really pull together in a mighty way for this and other giving opportunities around campus this holiday season," Bradley said. "Someone may not necessarily be able to give a monetary donation but might have clothing items their family has outgrown or a couple of canned goods they could offer. Every donation, no matter how big or small, may make a difference to someone this winter."
Project Holiday Hope is sponsored by Northwest's Student Senate, Faculty Senate, Administrative and Professional Council, and Support Staff Council.
