MARYVILLE, Mo. - Three Northwest students and two faculty members were honored over the weekend at the annual Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MOAHPERD) fall convention for their accomplishments and contributions in their fields.
The Northwest students were selected to receive the 2010 MOAHPERD Major of the Year Award. Students receiving the awards were Blair Sample, a senior physical education major and health minor from St. Joseph; Cassy Clark, a senior therapeutic recreation major from Urbandale, Iowa; and Chris King, a senior physical education major from Redding, Iowa.
In addition, Dr. Terry Robertson and Dr. Rheba Vetter received the 2010 Robert M. Taylor Professional Service Honor Award. The award represents outstanding scholarship, service, teaching and professional leadership. Robertson is professor and chair of Northwest's Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; Vetter is an associate professor in the department.
The awards were presented during a banquet Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark.
The mission of MOAHPERD is to support, encourage, and provide assistance to promote programs in health, leisure and movement-related activities for the enrichment of human life. Dr. Matt Symonds, assistant professor of HPERD at Northwest, concluded his term as MOAHPERD president at the end of the convention.
