MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State University Wrestling Club is back in action and will open its season with a home match against Missouri Western and Kansas State at 8:15 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 4 in Bearcat Arena.
Admission is $5. Northwest students and children 12 and under will be admitted for free. T-shirts can be purchased for $10 with proceeds going to support the wrestling club.
The wrestling club's next home match will be Dec. 4 against Wayne State.
The club's schedule also includes the Baker Open, Nov. 7 in Baldwin City, Kan.; the Adidas Bulldog Open, Jan. 22 in Seward, Neb.; the Southwest Conference Tournament, Feb. 26, in Wichita, Kan.; and the NCWA Nationals, March 10 in Macon, Ga.
The Northwest Wrestling Club was established in 2004 to provide students with opportunities to participate in wrestling competitions. It competes in the Southwest Conference, one of six conferences in the National Collegiate Wrestling Association.
Last year, the club grew to 13 members, and sent seven members to national competition in Virginia. There, the team finished 17th in a field of 79 teams and senior All-American Craig Addison beat the No. 1 seed on his way to a third place finish.
Loren Butler, associate professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance , is the club's academic advisor.
