Campus radio station, TV station sponsor 'No Shave November'
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University television station KNWT Channel 8 and radio station KZLX 106.7 are encouraging students and employees to go one month without shaving for their "No Shave November" charity promotion.
The promotion will culminate with final judging at 12:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3. Winners will be announced at 1 p.m. on KZLX. Winner of the most creative beard will be determined by the money collected Dec. 2-3 in the Student Union.
Mass communication Will Murphy, TV and video engineer in the Department of Mass Communications, Dr. Jon Pluskota, assistant professor of mass communications and student Daniel Thompson are coordinating the promotion.
"No-Shave November has been around for a few years as a kind of internet-driven celebration of facial hair as well as a good way to put 10 more minutes back into your sleep schedule by excising the drudgery of shaving each and every day," Murphy said. "We decided that it might be a fun way to get a wide cross-section of the Bearcat family involved in a light-hearted, competitive fundraiser."
KZLX 106.7 FM will showcase the promotion during weekly remote broadcasts in the J.W. Jones Student Union, and KNWT will air spots highlighting participants' progress. The winner could also be featured in the 2011 Tower yearbook.
All entrants must begin with a clean shave and submit a picture to email@example.com by 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1, along with the entrant's name, status (faculty, staff, student), phone number and the charity the entrant wishes to represent. The contest will be limited to the first 40 entries.
Beard update pictures must allso be e-mailed by noon on Nov. 11, 18, 25 and 30 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Participants cannot shave or trim during the month of November. Neck beard shaving is permitted, defined as the beard below the Adam's apple.
Monetary donations also will be collected in the basement of the J.W. Jones Student Union at KZLX/KNWT station remotes Nov. 12 and 19, and Dec. 2 and 3.
The best growth winner will be determined by the amount of money collected throughout the competition. The Nov. 30 beard update photo also should include a picture of the beard for best growth and an optional picture of the beard for most creative style or trim. Participants may trim or style the beard in any fashion they choose, but they must submit a final growth picture to be eligible for the creative category.
Donations will be totaled and split among the charities of the winner for "Best Growth" and the winner of "Most Creative." It is possible for one participant to win in both categories.
