MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State University will remember two students who recently passed away by ringing its Bell of '48.
A bell ringing is scheduled at 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25, in honor of Waylon Martensen who died May 7 as the result of an auto accident. Martensen, a sophomore management information systems major from California, Mo., was a middle distance runner for the Bearcat cross country and track teams.
Northwest also will honor Abby Cockrill with a bell ringing at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9. Cockrill, 22, died Aug. 22 as the result of an auto accident. A senior elementary education major from Platte City, she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and the Tower Choir.
The Bell of '48, located near the front of the Administration Building, is rung in memory of any member of the University community, and to announce other events deemed important by Student Senate and the administration. Northwest also will ring the bell to mark its annual Walkout Day on Oct. 29.
