S.T.A.T.S. to host second annual date auction
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Students Taking Action Through Service (S.T.A.T.S.) will host a date auction at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom in honor of Dana Brown, a Northwest student who died in January.
"Dana was a student that exemplifies everything this scholarship stands for," S.T.A.T.S. President Jason Williams said. "She was an outstanding Northwest student."
During a date auction, a lineup of student participants is announced and the audience has an opportunity to bid on participants. All bids must be paid in cash. The host will read a biography for each participant, in addition to what prospective bidder can expect on a date.
Twenty student volunteers will be auctioned to others students for dates or activities including washing laundry, cooking or cleaning a dorm room.
This year marks the second annual date auction for S.T.A.T.S. The first auction resulted in a successful effort to raise money after the earthquake in Haiti. Proceeds from this year's auction will support the newly established Dana Brown Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to a prospective Northwest student who demonstrates academic excellence and commitment to community service.
