Joseph Barbosa appointed student representative on Board of Regents
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon announced this week the appointment of Joseph S. Barbosa as student representative on the Northwest Missouri State Board of Regents.Barbosa's term will end Dec. 31, 2011, or until his successor is appointed. He succeeds Bradley D. Gardner whose term expired.
Barbosa, of Helena, Mo., is a social science education major who is highly-involved in campus life at Northwest.
He recently was elected Student Senate executive vice president for the 2010-11 school year. He was sophomore class president and governmental affairs committee co-chairman. He has served on the Student Senate Executive Board, as well as the organizational affairs and public relations committees.
Additionally, Barbosa has been a member of the Residence Hall Association, serving on the South Complex Hall Council Executive Board and the Hudson Hall Council. He also was a RHA Wellness Committee member.
Barbosa is a Northwest Ambassador. He is a member of the Phi Beta Sigma honor society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
He is a graduate of Savannah R-III High School in Savannah, Mo.
The student regent is a non-voting member of the Board of Regents. Barbosa's appointment must be approved by the Missouri Senate.
The Board of Regents develops policy and has responsibility for sound resource management of the University, and determines general, educational and financial policies.
