MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State will celebrate its collaboration with a Panama scholarship and financial aid agency while hosting a delegation of Panamanian officials Friday and Saturday.
A brief ceremony is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. Friday in the Living Room of the J.W. Jones Student Union to recognize Instituto para la Formación y Aprovechamiento de Recursos Humanos (IFARHU), which means Institute for the Development and Training of Human Resources. Founded in 1965, it manages all domestic and international scholarships the government awards to students for study in Panama or abroad.
The visiting IFARHU delegation will consist of Director General Sonia de Luzcando, Secretary General Eusebia Moran and Special Assistant to the Director General Dr. Etilvia Arjona.
"Having guests like these is important because it helps us build positive relations with leaders in other countries," said Dr. Cleo Samudzi, director of the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing. "By visiting us, they will understand our university better. It helps us in recruiting international students because we will have advocates among their leadership. It helps with the funding of international students who attend Northwest."
During their visit, the delegation will tour the Northwest campus and speak with faculty and staff about the Horace Mann Laboratory School, the Missouri Academy, the Culture of Excellence/Quality Control program and the Intensive English program.
The visit is part of a Missouri tour during which the delegates also plan to visit University of Missouri-Kansas City, Metropolitan Community College, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Central Missouri, Lindenwood University and Southeast Missouri State University.
