JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Senate on Monday confirmed Gov. Jay Nixon's appointment of Dr. Mark H. Hargens (D), of St. Joseph, to the Northwest Missouri State Board of Regents.
Hargens' appointment begins immediately, and he will fill the expired board seat of Rita Hanks. Her term expired in January 2009, but she had continued to serve on the Board.
Hargens term will end Jan. 1, 2015.
Hargens, a 1970 graduate of Northwest, was the associate superintendent of the St. Joseph School District from 1993 until his retirement in 2006. Dr. Hargens joined the school district as its director of pupil personnel services in 1979.
Hargens received his bachelor's from Northwest in psychology. He also holds a teaching certificate from Missouri Western State College, a master's in psychology from Central Missouri State University and his doctorate of psychology in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The Board of Regents develops policy and has responsibility for sound resource management of the University, and determines general, educational and financial policies.
