MARYVILLE, Mo. - To commemorate "Exercise as Medicine" month, local families are invited for an afternoon of fitness activities on Saturday, May 15 at the Mozingo Family Fun Stroll, Roll, or Run.
The free event will be 2 to 4 p.m. and begin at the Phillips Shelter, south of Mozingo Lake Beach. The event is a non-competitive family activity along four miles of rolling hills, hard surface and gravel.
At least two family members, including a guardian, must start and finish the trail by walking, biking or jogging together. Families should finish the trail before 4 p.m.
Restrooms are available along the trail. Water aid stations will be at the start and the finish.
The event is co-sponsored by Northwest Missouri State's fitness center, Mozingo Outdoor Education Recreation Area (MOERA), wellness center, and the department of health, physical education, recreation and dance. St. Francis Hospital and Health Services, Nodaway County Trails Inc., Nodaway County Health, the city of Maryville, the Greater Maryville Chamber of Commerce and St. Gregory's Public Achievement Team for Transitional Housing also are co-sponsoring the event.
In case of inclement weather, the event will not be rescheduled.
The event is scheduled in conjunction with "Exercise as Medicine" month, which recognizes the wide array of benefits regular physical activity offers. Maryville Mayor Chad Jackson also will deliver a proclamation to commemorate the month.
