JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon has announced his appointment of Dr. Mark H. Hargens (D), of St. Joseph, to the Northwest Missouri State Board of Regents.
Hargens' appointment must be confirmed by the Senate before it can become official. If confirmed, Hargens would fill the expired board seat of Rita Hanks. Her term expired in January 2009 but she has continued to serve on the Board.
The Governor has appointed Hargens to a term ending Jan. 1, 2015.
Hargens, a 1970 graduate of Northwest, most recently was associate superintendent for personnel in the St. Joseph School District from 1993 until his retirement in 2006.
Hargens received his bachelor's from Northwest in psychology. He also holds a teaching certificate from Missouri Western State College, a master's in psychology from Central Missouri State University and his doctorate of psychology in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
The Board of Regents develops policy and has responsibility for sound resource management of the University, and determines general, educational and financial policies.
